Terminator Command Squad

Well, I know it's been a long time since I last posted. In truth, I've started college, and it's taking a lot of my time. However, I am still driven to paint my beloved Carcharodons, and today I have something nice for you all.

I'd like to present my terminator command squad, mostly based off Space Hulk terminators, with some bits from the regular space marine command squad, and the Grey Knights. These are not 100% completed, as the white shark emblem hasn't been added to the shoulders, nor has the banner been done. I've recently acquired a sheet of transfers from Forgeworld, so I'll be redoing all my minis at some point and using purity seal to finish 'em up.

Here's the second Theodore Bruckner mini, the version on foot. I rather like the whole stance of the mini, he looks really poised to strike. I decided to give him the shield from my MkIII Boarding Marine, seeing as how he doesn't have one, and it suited the mini so well.

Busy busy busy.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I've been painting a bit, but not much, and no Carcharodons I'm afraid. Money has been low, and I've been feeling like a break from my little grey marines. However, as mentioned, I have been painting a bit! I've painted a Chaos Warriors command group, which are almost done, and I've painted Theodore Bruckner! That mini was gorgeous, unfortunately mine needed a lot of work vìs filing, green stuff, etc. It was even missing one of the four head options... not the ones I'd planned on using, but still!

I went for a different kind of scheme on both figures, Theodore and Reaper. Reaper is gorgeous, btw. I've always loved gryphons, even demigryphs. I went for a snow-themed base, and painted Reaper in winter colours to match. I'm quite pleased, even though I noticed a glaring mold line on the pictures after I was done painting. The lance was one of the last bits I painted, so I thought "screw it" and finished him off. It was a little awkward painting the prominent scrotum and penis on Reaper...fortunately they're under the mini so not really visible. :P

Dark Angels Limited Edition Company Master

Well, I happen to have one of these guys laying around, and don't really need or want him. I'll be honest and say I paid £50 for him, and hope to get that when I sell him. The mini isn't painted or coated, and is as good as new. Shipping costs a mere £4, worldwide. I'll be shipping from Norway, so if you happen to live there, it will be cheaper. So if you want him, send me a message!

Sternguard Veteran 2

I got the Mk III Boarding Marine from eBay recently, as I mentioned. He arrived a few days ago, and I've been having a great time working on him, it really is one gorgeous mini. I didn't like the helmet, but I liked the plume, so I shaved a bit off the top of a Mk V helmet, and stuck it on. I also went for the combi-melta hand rather than the hammer, and removed his left hand. I gave him the chainsword from the assault marine sergeant sprue, and I like how everything came out. I also stuck an extra pouch and knife on his belt, as well as a short sword. He's quite heavily armed, then, and I'm am quite pleased. The only thing that bothered me with this mini was the armour plating hanging between his legs, it was very thin and I had to be really careful not to break it. Other than that, I think this is the new leader for my sternguard, so say hi to Sternguard Sergeant Gatten!

Brother Vermis - Ironclad Dreadnought

Woo! I got my Mk IV Ironclad Dreadnought from Forge World a couple of days ago, and I loved it. It's a stunning machine, looking really imposing and aggressive. Of course, the chainfist and close combat arm help with that. It was fun to paint as well, being the biggest mini I've painted so far. I especially went for the close combat stuff, since it fits so well in my army. I'm still waiting for the base, which I ordered from Dragonforge. I'll post up a pic when that's done, but I couldn't wait to share it as it stands as of now.

You may remember one of my first minis, a terminator, was called Brother Vermis. But since the guy he's named after is a good friend, I decided the Ironclad fits him much better. ;)

Anyway, as for the weapons loadout, it's all really aesthetics for me, since there's no one to play in my area. I can just go for what I like really, hehe. Anyway, I've completely fallen for dreadnoughts. After playing around with them in DoW: Retribution, I really have taken a shine to these mean machines. I can just picture Brother Vermis drop-podding into a group of heretics, and his augmented voice booming out: "I have come to eviscerate you." I think I'm going to get another dreadnought. ;)

Today the sun was shining for the first time this year, heralding the end of a long, dark winter. I decided to take my completed minis out for a sunbath, and of course, a group shot.

Brother-Chaplain Cassandros

Finished another mini today, a mini I've always admired. The chaplain in terminator armour, not converted in any way. It was quite the challenge to paint the black armour, I've never liked it, and it's the main reason I never went for a Black Templars army, even though I love them. Anyway, I feel it came out ok, and I'm quite satisfied with him.

Sternguard Veteran

So I got my hands on a limited edition Veteran Sergeant, for £25. Bit pricey, but meh. I've always been a sucker for limited edition minis. Limited edition anything, really. Most of my games are Collector's Editions. I just like 'em. Anyway, I saw him for sale and figured he'd make a perfect start on my Sternguard Veterans.

The mini was in pretty good shape, needed a bit of filing, no greenstuff fortunately, as I'm hopeless with the stuff. So after cleaning it up, clipping away the bottom part which goes in a slotted base, I filed it smooth. Quick coat of paint, and applied the usual painting technique. The end result: a fine looking member of my first company. ;)

Limited Edition Boarding Mk III Space Marine

Look at this chap. Isn't he lovely? Quite hard to get a hold of for a decent price too. I was lucky enough to find one on Ebay for £30, which was by far the cheapest I could find. He'll be the leader of my Sternguard Veteran Squad. I really like the concept of both Vanguard and Sternguard, and I'll probably be ordering the Vanguard box when I have some more spare money. I've decided to put my Grey Knight dreams on hold for a while, being content with having ordered the codex for now. I want a proper Carcharodons army.

More news, I don't know if I've mentioned it in an earlier post, I've ordered a load of skulls and knives and so on from various bits sites, which will be used to further "sharkify" my marines. Looking forward to them arriving, as well as my Forgeworld package.

Tyberos revisited!

Well, after having spent some time looking at good old Tyberos, still my favourite mini to date, I decided to find out what he'd look like bare-headed, like how those poncy blue marine officers tend to walk around, inviting snipers all around to take a shot, and then with his original helmet. I found a nice head from the Empire Outriders box, seemed like it would look good on Tyberos. And it did, I was quite pleased. I gave him some scars, maybe a bit too many, but meh. He's a warrior, not a poet.

Of course, after taking a picture, I had to then finish off the original helmet which I fortunately had kept, and see how it looked. I was stunned. It just looks so much better than either the bare head or the helmet I'd chosen. Needless to say, this is now the new look of my chapter master, and he is gorgeous.

Scout Squad Igfig completed!

Well, after two days with a LOT of painting, they are finally done. I'm quite pleased with how they came out, with perhaps the exception of the eyes. I just never seem to get 'em 100% right. I did try all black eyes, but decided I didn't like it too much, and also this is only really a common feature among older Carcharodons. I gave Scout Sergeant Igfig a little gore on his chainsword, just to show he's been using it. ;)

Anyway, I've now started on another terminator squad, this time with my all-time favourite weapon, stormbolters. They're being converted from Space Hulk terminators, so a lot of filing and cutting will need to be done. I've also gone and ordered something from Forge World, you'll have to wait and see what. ;) Below is a group shot for your enjoyment.

And here they are. Not sure if rulewise you can even have a six-man squad, but the likelihood of me ever playing a game is remote. Anyway, I'm quite pleased with how they came out, as individuals and as a unit.

Devastators with Heavy Bolters

I went for two guys with Heavy Bolters from the remaining weapons, in retrospect I wish I'd taken a lascannon instead. But hey, next time, right? Heavy bolters have always been a favourite weapon of mine, and these guys will be great at mowing down hordes of heretics.





The second one, I like his positioning a bit more than the other. He's ready for action, while the other one is kinda getting into position. In a way, they complement each other.

Devastator with Melta-Gun

This one is my new favourite, I thought I liked the plasma cannon one, but the melta is just awesome. He looks fierce and ready for action, I'm quite pleased.

Devastator with Rocket Launcher

Finished all my devastators today. Forgive the long wait, I've had some troubles at work, which have led to me quitting. But enough about that, lets talk about the mini!

You can see the scarred and shot up armour, the old, dried blood stains, the general gritty look I'm aiming for. I have to say I really like these plastic devastators. They're nicely detailed, and easy to assemble, even when using Forgeworld bodies.
